When thinking about addiction recovery nutrition, should I consume fish oil supplements for the Omega-3’s?
Oftentimes, while in recovery from any addiction, our bodies will experience higher than average blood pressures.
The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oils can help lower your blood pressure and triglyceride levels.
Studies have gone on to show Omega-3’s are important for brain function, normal growth and development, and inflammation, helping with rheumatoid arthritis.
How much should you take? Recommended dosage is 5 caps/week – 1g/day, higher doses to lower triglycerides. When taking supplements, be sure to pick quality brands such as Nordic Naturals, Spectrum or Carlson.
Good natural sources include coldwater fish (mackerel, tuna, salmon, sardines), cod liver, flaxseed and canola oils, soybeans and tofu, walnuts.
There are risks, ask your doctor before changing you addiction recovery nutrition program.
